Have you heard the word of ‘Hanami’? Hanami is the traditional Japanese culture that people celebrate the beautiful cherry blossoms, and every spring, thousands of Japanese people gather under the trees and enjoy seeing them, eating foods and drinking alcohol. The cherry blossoms impress people because the length of the bloom is only a week or two, so forecast when the cherry blossoms will bloom and the blossom forecast is announced each year by the weather bureau. The history of Hanami started in the Nara era and people enjoyed seeing plum first, but in Heian era, it changed to see cherry blossoms. Today, the Japanese people continue the tradition of hanami.

Famous People in New Zealand

I examine who is famous in New Zealand on the Internet, and then the name of the supervisor who made a lot of movies has come out. So, I compare New Zealand and Japanese famous people who is related to the movie.
New Zealand has turned out many movie supervisors. Their movies are very famous all over the world. For example, Peter Jackson who made Lode of the Rings, Andrew Adamson who made Shrek and Narnia, Temuera Morison who appear Star Wars series, Sam Neil who apprear Jurassic Park, and stuff like that. Look these; there are almost fantasy and fiction stories, and I think these works give children wonderful dreams. New Zealand is blessed with nature, and Lode of the Rings, Narnia and Last Samurai filmed in it. They have become grand works and loved by all over the world.
On the other hand, few Japanese directors are current in the world. For example, Akira Kurosawa and Takeshi Kitano. They are famous in the world as well as Japan, and have received many prizes. But it is more small-scale than the works of New Zealand, I think. I hope that more Japanese supervisors take an active part all over the world and to become famous.

Autumn Festival in Japan

I will talk about content of Gion Festival. Gion Festival has continued more than 1,000 years and it is historical. About 400,000 people visit Yoiyama every year that is held on July 14 to 16 and feeling over the festival run high. People carry portable shrines and make the around the city. At this time, there are many street vendors with games and Japanese festival food. We can see the children who are selling ‘Chimaki’ which is to talisman. Also, many visitors wear yukata and geta, which are traditional Japanese outfits. On July 17, Yamahoko-junko is held. Yamahoko-junko is the parade of colorful floats through downtown Kyoto. It called ‘moving museum’. The floats are pulled through the streets by team of men dressed in traditional costumes. The Gion Festival typifies festival in Japan. I have never been to there and want to go someday.

Movies

Do you like movies? What kind of movies did you watch during the summer vacation? I went to see two nice movies, so I introduce you these movies.

One of movie is “The happening”. This movie is written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan who made “The Sixth Sense” in 1999. One day, people suicide one after another all over the world and it spreads to nearby population centers. The first stage is lost of speech. The second stage is that they become disoriented. The third stage is ‘death’. Elliot, his wife, Alma and Julian’s daughter, Jess were escaped from mysterious fear. But it spreads to smaller population centers and they are hounded. They can get away from the invisible threat. But cause of death is unknown. I think this movie send a message that people should think about environmental destruction and ecology.

The other one is “Hancock”. The main character, Hancock, is Will Smith who is one of my favorite actors. Hancock is superheroes with great powers. He can fly in the sky and stop a crime in the city. But he is disliked by citizen, because there are some problems of his way. When he saves people from danger, he always destroys buildings, train and road. So, he decides to become good heroes, and he accomplishes. This movie is a powerful and we can enjoy many actions.

These movies are very nice and exciting! Why don't you watch these movies in the theater? You will surely enjoy!
